Chicaro

Chicaro was born April 23, 1956, in Kuna, Idaho. Bred, owned
and raced by Alan Newby, the stallion was by Apache and out of
Callico Babe N. He hit the tracks before the Appaloosa Horse Club had a racing department and before pari-mutuel racing.

Though there are no official records, Chicaro was known to have
won at least nine races against open competition. He was very versatile, and was entered in halter and performance classes.

Chicaro sired 179 registered foals, 47 of which were race starters that earned a combined total of $40,500. Notable offspring include Chicaroís Slick Chick, Chic Appeal, Chic Supreme, Madame Chic and Count Chic.

As a sire, he ranked just behind Apache King S. and Navajo
Britches in number of starters, though his percentage of winners
was higher. From 1962 through 1972, Chicaro was either the leading or in the top three for sire with the most winners.

He died in 1976 and was buried at Alanís ranch in Kuna.
