Appaloosa Horse Club Sheltowee Trail Ride Offers Fun & Friendships

Saddle up for fun & friendships with the Appaloosa Horse Club on the annual Sheltowee Trail Ride. This year’s ride takes place October 1 - 7 in the Daniel Boone National Forest near McKee, Kentucky in Jackson County. This unique rides follows the 269-mile Sheltowee trail. Sheltowee, meaning Big Turtle, was the name given to Daniel Boone when he was adopted into the Shawnee tribe as the son of the Great War chief Blackfish.

The Sheltowee Trail Ride is a wagon-wheel-type of ride with a base camp. Each day’s ride will leave participants breathless as they view deep gorges, Whitewater Rivers, cool streams, and a variety of wildlife. All lodging is primitive. Tenting, RV’s or trailers acceptable. All meals will be catered on the ride starting with the evening meal on Sunday, October 1 and ending with breakfast on Saturday, October 7. Sack lunches will be provided for lunch on the trail. In the evenings you’ll enjoy music, dancing, raffles and a variety of other exciting events. The ApHC will provide portable toilets, water, farrier, veterinarian and physician.

All breeds are welcome on the Sheltowee Trail Ride. No stabling facilities are available, so all horses will need to be tied to trailers or corralled while in camp. Horses can also be tied to a high line from tree to tree with tree savors. The ApHC accepts only 125 participants on this ride, so get your application in soon! All riders must be over the age of 12.
