The Appaloosa Horse Club Board
of Directors met via conference call on Tuesday December 5,
2006.
The Board voted to officially oppose passage
of Senate Bill 1915, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention
Act. A position statement with additional explanation of the
vote will be posted following a review by directors.
There was an update on current year and future
applications for tax incentive fund rebates relating to the
Appaloosa World Show in Fort Worth, TX.
Board members approved the appointment of a
World Sale Committee to begin working on the 2007 sales. In
addition, the Board approved the appointment of an ad hoc committee
to assess the decline in halter division entries at ApHC shows
and to make recommendations.
The Board reviewed a revenue and expense statement
from the 2006 National Show. There was discussion of fixed versus
variable costs, ways to reduce overall expenses, and options
for increasing revenue.
Directors approved the basics of a proposal
to upgrade the ApHC office telephone system and to recover some
of the expense associated with two older systems currently owned
by the Club.
Other topics of discussion included regional
clubs, a President’s letter regarding the 2008 National Show,
ApHC participation in the National Finals Rodeo trade show,
and an update on negotiations with Las Vegas facilities for
possible future shows.
The Board also emphasized the need to provide
more information to ApHC members and regional organizations
about the recent decision regarding double points for state
fairs and major livestock shows.
