Appaloosas, exhibitors, owners and trainers
converged Oct. 26-Nov. 3 in Fort Worth, Texas at the Will
Rogers Memorial Center for an exciting 2007 World Championship
Appaloosa Show!
The annual international event showcased the
world’s greatest Appaloosas and exhibitors who competed for
amazing prizes and prestigious titles in 150 classes including
cattle, western, English, jumping, games and halter.
All around the nine-day show was a success—total
entries increased by more than 10-percent over last year’s
entries. Even the number of participating Appaloosas increased
this year by 3.7-percent.The boost in entries may be because
the 2007 World Championship Appaloosa Show offers some of
the industry’s most exciting competitions including SR Gold
Rope Race, Freestyle Reining and the Nez Perce Stake Races!
Every division at the 2007 World Championship
Appaloosa Show experienced a swell in numbers, but perhaps
none more so than the timed roping classes. The first ever
Timed Event Extravaganza offered $40,000 in cash and prizes
to the winners competing in open and non-pro timed tie-down
roping and heading and heeling classes.
Dynamite Day won first place in open timed
tie-down roping. Dynamite Day was exhibited by Ryan Jarrett;
and is owned by Hyman and Julia Young of Marshall, North Carolina.
Jeff Jirkovsky and Hollywood Hickory claimed
the blue ribbon in non-pro timed down roping. Jirkovsky also
owns Hollywood Hickory.
Terry Henry and Cookie Dough won first place
in non-pro timed heading and heeling. Rhonda Henry of Haslet,
Texas owns Cookie Dough.
Mr. Big Bucks, owned by Karen Grimm of Minden,
Nevada, received first place in open timed heading and heeling.
Paul Tierney exhibited this winning Appaloosa. Mr. Big Bucks
also earned the Overall High Point Timed Roping Champion title,
receiving the most points out of the horses competing in the
Timed Event Extravaganza.
Mr. Big Bucks and Grimm went on to earn other prestigious
honors, including the $10,000 Nutrena Iron Horse award and
the title of World’s Best Appaloosa!
The 2007 World Championship Appaloosa Show
ended with a bang as members of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting
Association wowed the crowded with an exciting demonstration
of mounted shooting. Members of all ages wore authentic costumes
and shot targets while aboard colorful Appaloosas.
The 2007 World Championship Appaloosa Show
was truly exciting, and the Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) looks
forward to many more World Championship Appaloosa Shows in
Fort Worth, Texas as the ApHC and the City of Fort Worth signed
a 5-year contract, beginning in 2008.
Next year also marks the first of three National
Appaloosa and World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show to take
place in Jackson, Miss. With more than $100,000 in payouts,
exciting new classes and activities, the 2008 National Appaloosa
and World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show promises to be
the most exciting show yet!
