Appaloosa Youth Association Announces Winners Of 2009 Art Contest



The Appaloosa Youth Association (AYA) would like to thank all of the youth participants of the 2009 Annual Art Contest for many wonderful entries. The AYA proudly announces the winners, selected by a secret panel of judges, of the 2009 Art Contest!

In the top three for the 13 & Under category:

First place was awarded to Hanna Ring of La Fayette, N.Y., for her watercolor sketch of cowboy boots and spurs. Hanna won $250, a one-year subscription to Appaloosa Journal and the drawing will be featured in the October issue of Appaloosa Journal.

Madison Mier of Tigard, Ore., earned second place and $175 for her pastel portrait of two Appaloosas running on a black suede background.

Third place went to Ashely Holzgang of Tigard, Ore., for her color penciled drawing of an Appaloosa running among sunflowers. Ashley was awarded $75.

In the 14 to 18 category:

Olivia Mayer of Big Lake, Minn., earned first place honors for her detailed chalk drawing of an Appaloosa on black paper. Olivia won $250, a one-year subscription to Appaloosa Journal and her drawing will be featured in the October issue of Appaloosa Journal. Olivia also earned third place for her second entry of a watercolor painting featuring her neighbor’s 24-year-old Appaloosa gelding. She received $75 for third place.

Andrea Fisher earned second place for her painting of an Appaloosa foal on canvas. Andrea won $175.
The AYA would like to congratulate of the winners for their excellent work, and once again thank each youth that participated in the contest. The AYA looks forward to next year’s entries from these up-and-coming artists.

The AYA sponsors the art contest annually for Appaloosa youths to showcase their artistic talents. Artwork is accepted each year between January 1 and May 1. There are two age divisions (13 & Under and 14 to 18) for the contest and entrants can compete for cash and other prizes. All entrants received an award for participating.
