The Appaloosa Horse

  The ApHC is pleased to announce a new TV program scheduled to premiere on several channels in April. "The Appaloosa Horse" will be a monthly, half-hour program dealing with all things Appaloosa. You'll see information about the Appaloosa breed and its history, learn about ApHC events and programs and see tips from leading trainers and breeders from the Appaloosa industry. 2003 Yearbooks Are On Sale Now!

Appaloosa Journal
  Appaloosa Journal is looking for stories about what you like to do with your Appaloosas in the summer, specifically activities such as camping, hiking, overnight trails, swimming, riding on the beach, etc. Please email editor4@appaloosajournal.com if you'd like to share your favorite summer activities and possibly appear in the Journal!

2004 National Show
  
At the ApHC March 2004 Board of Directors meeting, the Board motioned to add the following two classes to the slate of classes offered at the 2004 National Show. These classes will be open to all eligible exhibitors and horses. However, points earned in these classes will only count toward the High Plains Competition awards.

  High Plains Competition
  The High Plains Competition (HPC) will introduce the World to the Appaloosa’s American heritage by showcasing Appaloosas in events that demonstrate their outstanding athleticism, versatility, attitude and beauty.

  
Sterling silver belt buckles will be presented to the high-point champion in each of three divisions; open, youth and non-pro. Overall high-point awards, including a Silver Mesa trophy saddle, will be presented to the division champion with the most overall High Plains Competition points. These awards are sponsored by Sergeant’s Western World. National and World Show Promotional Opportunities
  The 57th National Appaloosa Show and World Championship Youth Show are just around the corner. The ApHC has developed several new and exciting promotional opportunities during the event. 2004 Apache Land Trail Ride
  The deadline for the 2004 Apache Land Trail Ride in Gallup, New Mexico is fast approaching. Don't miss out on your opportunity to experience the great Land of Enchantment. Speech Contest

  Speak out and demonstrate your skills in public speaking and vie for your chance at $500 in savings bonds! For more information or to obtain a registration form, please contact the ApHC Youth Coordinator at (208) 882-5578, extension 264. Speech contest entries are due in the ApHC office by June 1, 2004.

Art and Essay Contest
  Designed to help young Appaloosa enthusiasts express themselves through their artwork or in written format, the AYA Art and Essay contests help Appaloosa youth develop their Appaloosa knowledge. Youth compete in their appropriate age ranges for savings bonds in various amounts. If you are interested in obtaining more information, contact the Youth Coordinator at (208) 882-5578, extension 264. Entries are due in to the ApHC office by May 1, 2004.

Join A Youth Team And Compete For Awards And Prizes!
  Held at the World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show, teams comprised of youth residing in the same territory compete for the title of Team Tournament Champion and various awards. Teams participate and earn points based on competition in the show arena, the speech contest, stall decorating contest, and little buckaroo dummy roping contest. Scholarships Of Up To $1,000.00 Awarded Annually!
  An official application must be filled out and submitted to the ApHC office by June 10, 2004 in order to be considered by the scholarship selection committee. Selection is based on scholastic aptitude, leadership, community and civic responsibility, and involvement in the Appaloosa Industry. Take advantage of your chance for advanced education by contacting the ApHC Youth Coordinator at (208) 882-5578, extension 264.

Youth Photography Contest
  The ApHC, Appaloosa Journal and Larry Williams Photography have once again joined together to hold the 2nd Annual Youth Photography Contest! There are three contest divisions so grab your camera and vie for your chance at $900 in savings bonds or a 35mm camera! Photos must be received in the ApHC office by May 1, 2004 to be eligible. MARE DNA KIT SALE
  In an effort to underscore the Appaloosa Horse Club’s commitment to integrity of the Appaloosa breed, the board of directors implemented mandatory DNA testing for breeding mares beginning January 1, 2004. All mares born in 1995 and after must have their DNA on file before said mare’s produce, born in 2004, will be registered. Through 2005, DNA kits for mares are being offered at the reduced rate of $25 - a substantial savings of 50 percent!
