Appaloosa Museum Winchester
rifle drawing December 15, 2004
The
Appaloosa Museum is excited to announce that the drawing for the
Winchester rifle will be held at noon on December 15, 2004. This
beautiful, collector’s rifle is a gold-plated 30-30 Winchester
model 94, with a laser-etched stock. Valued at $7,000, it features
an image of Appaloosa foundation stallion Toby II. This is a benefit
fundraiser for the Appaloosa Museum and Heritage Center and your
support would be greatly appreciated. Tickets are $10 each and
may be purchased through the museum Web site www.appaloosamuseum.org
by phone (208) 882-5578 ext.279, or by mail at Appaloosa Museum,

Mare DNA kits on sale The
ApHC is now offering mare DNA kits at the special rate of $35.
The board of directors implemented mandatory DNA testing for breeding
mares beginning January 1, 2004. All mares born in 1995 and after
must have their DNA on file before said mare’s produce,
born in 2004 or after, will be registered.
Stallion
and gelding DNA kits are still $50. If you have any questions
or would like to order a DNA kit, please contact the registration
department at (208) 882-5578 ext. 300.

| Foundation
Pedigree Designation
Enrolling
in the Foundation Pedigree Designation is a great way to show
pride in your Appaloosa’s heritage and ensure its eligibility
in regional show FPD classes. The FPD classification on your horse’s
certificate of registration will provide proof of Appaloosa bloodlines
and important clues to breeding potential. By taking notice of
valuable foundation bloodlines, breeders have been able to select
desired qualities such as conformation, soundness, athletic ability
and Appaloosa characteristics. Visit the ApHC Web site at www.appaloosa.com/downloadableforms.shtm
for enrollment forms, or apply when registering or transferring
horses. If you have questions or would like a free printout of
horses that may be eligible, contact the registration department
at (208) 882-5578 ext. 300 or registration@appaloosa.

| My
Appaloosa isn’t dead! When
an Appaloosa lives 30 years past January 1 of its foaling year,
according to ApHC records, it’s presumed dead and its permanent
registration file will automatically be marked as such without
notice to the horse’s recorded owner.
If
your Appaloosa hasn’t died and you’d like to reinstate
its Certificate of Registration, you may submit a signed statement
to that effect from the recorded owner, also stating the horse’s
name and registration number. You must also submit four current
color photographs that contain a sign showing the date as proof
that the horse is alive. The ApHC will then reactivate your horse’s
file. To keep your horse’s record active, this process must
be repeated at the beginning of each year the horse lives past
the age of 30, because the record will show the horse being dead
every January 1.
Contact
the registration department for more information at (208) 882-5578
ext. 300 or registration@appaloosa.com.
