Non-pros and youth — don’t forget to renew!

Don’t forget to renew your membership. Enroll in the youth program for only $10 and participate in the many activities and programs catered to the Appaloosa youth audience. For only $10 non-pros can enter the non-pro division so people are competing against other exhibitors the same age and experience level.

Earn the Regional Youth Club of the Year title

Gather your regional youth club together and spend some time indoors this winter constructing a scrapbook for submission to be the regional youth club of the year. Scrapbooks should depict the various activities the club did together throughout 2004 and are due in to the ApHC office by March 1, 2005. For more information, contact the ApHC Youth Coordinator at (208) 882-5578 ext. 264 or e-mail youth@appaloosa.com.

Mare DNA kits on sale

The ApHC is now offering mare DNA kits at the special rate of $35. The board of directors implemented mandatory DNA testing for breeding mares beginning January 1, 2004. All mares born in 1995 and after must have their DNA on file before said mare’s produce, born in 2004 or after, will be registered.

Stallion and gelding DNA kits are still $50. If you have any questions or would like to order a DNA kit, please contact the registration department at (208) 882-5578 ext. 300.

Foundation Pedigree Designation

Enrolling in the Foundation Pedigree Designation is a great way to show pride in your Appaloosa’s heritage and ensure its eligibility in regional show FPD classes. The FPD classification on your horse’s certificate of registration will provide proof of Appaloosa bloodlines and important clues to breeding potential. By taking notice of valuable foundation bloodlines, breeders have been able to select desired qualities such as conformation, soundness, athletic ability and Appaloosa characteristics.

Visit the ApHC Web site at www.appaloosa.com/downloadableforms.shtm for enrollment forms, or apply when registering or transferring horses. If you have questions or would like a free printout of horses that may be eligible, contact the registration department at (208) 882-5578 ext. 300 or registration@appaloosa.
