Immediate
Discontinuation Of Blood Typing!
Due to limited access to blood-type processing as a means of parentage verification, it has become necessary for the ApHC
to immediately discontinue sales of blood-typing kits for
means of parentage verification. As of April 4, 2005, should you need to have a foal parentage-verified, it must be done
via DNA typing instead of blood typing. The ApHC will no
longer allow breeding stallions or mares to file blood types.
All stallions by submission of their stallion breeding report for any breeding year must be DNA tested and the
result must be filed with the ApHC.
If you own an Appaloosa whose blood type was filed after 1995, that blood may be converted to DNA. If it's necessary
that you pull a hair sample for DNA typing, the cost of the kit is $35 for mares and $50 for stallions and geldings. It
is imperative that you contact the ApHC at (208)882-5578 ext. 300 with your horses' names and registration numbers so
a customer service representative can verify the necessity for you to complete DNA typing.

Foundation Pedigree Designation
Enrolling in the Foundation Pedigree Designation is a great way to show pride in your Appaloosa’s heritage and ensure its eligibility in regional show FPD classes. The FPD classification on your horse’s certificate of registration will provide proof of Appaloosa bloodlines and important clues to breeding potential. By taking notice of valuable foundation bloodlines, breeders have been able to select desired qualities such as conformation, soundness, athletic ability and Appaloosa characteristics.

Full

In order to fill the empty zones and territories that didn’t have a current elected AYA director, the Appaloosa Horse Club announced the position openings and held an election for the youth who declared candidacy. As a result, we now have a full, 18-member youth board. See
http://www.appaloosa.com/youth.shtm
