Help The Appaloosa Horse Club Offer Disaster Relief For Equine Victims of Hurricane Katrina!

Hundreds of people in the southern states are opening their barns, their hearts, and in many cases their homes, to assist horses and their owners affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The ApHC will be making a donation to the United States Equestrian Federation in an effort to assist in the disaster relief for our equine victims. Please help us in this effort by contacting the Appaloosa Horse Club today! Call in your donation or mail payment for the "Katrina Disaster Relief" fund by contacting the Appaloosa Horse Club at 2720 W. Pullman Road, Moscow, ID, 83843 or (208) 882-5578. Together, the ApHC membership can make a difference!

Suspended mail service to Hurricane Katrina areas

The publisher of Appaloosa Journal has been advised by the USPS that mail service has been suspended to many ZIP codes in Hurricane Katrina-affected areas. The ApHC will be removing those affected ZIP codes from subscription lists until post offices serving those areas are back in operation.

The publisher will ship these undeliverable issues to the ApHC in Moscow, Idaho, where they will be held for mailing when service is resumed. We appreciate your patience as we work to be sure all subscribers receive their magazines in as timely a manner as possible.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the hurricane victims.

Help for equine hurricane victims Details on www.usef.org

Hundreds of people in the southern states are opening their barns, their hearts, and in many cases their homes, to assist horses and their owners affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. To date, the response has been overwhelming, with more than 5,000 people willing to offer assistance nationwide. The next step in this massive effort is to spread the word to those in the equine world who have been hurt and stranded by this national tragedy.

A list of volunteer caregivers and farms can be found on www.usef.org, by clicking on the Hurricane Katrina link on the right side of the homepage, or by going directly to http://www.usef.org/documents/relief/HurricaneRelief.pdf. (Do not include a period after pdf) Volunteers are listed by city, state, and ability to provide veterinary care and a trailer for transportation. Because we have been inundated with volunteer requests and because we want to make relocation as easy as possible for these horses, we have limited our list to include Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.

Hurricane and disaster resources available on AAEP Web site

   Foundation Pedigree Designation

The FPD classification on your horse’s certificate of registration will provide proof of Appaloosa bloodlines and important clues to breeding potential. By taking notice of valuable foundation bloodlines, breeders have been able to select desired qualities such as conformation, soundness, athletic ability and Appaloosa characteristics.

Visit the ApHC Web site at www.appaloosa.com/downloadableforms.shtm for enrollment forms, or apply when registering or transferring horses. If you have questions or would like a free printout of horses that may be eligible, contact the registration department at (208) 882-5578 ext. 300 or registration@appaloosa.com.

World Sale — the sale of champions

Don’t miss finding your next champion Appaloosa at the World Sale, held November 2 and 3 in conjunction with the World Championship Appaloosa Show at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

Henry and Teresa Blake of Wilkinson, Indiana, purchased their National champion, Arizonas Dream, at the World Sale in 2004 for $2,200. Tommy and Kitty McGregor of Norman, Oklahoma, consigned Arizonas Dream, a 2003 stallion by Arizona Justice out of Lil Miss Dreamfinder. Teresa entered him in most colorful at halter classes at several regional shows, and has already earned 42.5 points in the class. Her wins at the regional level gave her enough confidence to enter the non-pro most colorful at halter class at the National Show, where she won the first championship trophy of her show career.

A Yearling Incentive Sale will be held November 2. Yearlings entered in this sale will be eligible the following year for futurities at the 2006 World Championship Appaloosa Show in 2-year-old halter, 2-year-old hunter under saddle, and 2-year-old western pleasure. Each futurity will have a guaranteed purse of $10,000.

The Select Sale will be held November 3, and will showcase quality breeding and showing prospects. Appaloosas in the sale have been selected based on their conformation, champion bloodlines and show histories. This sale is the perfect place for breeders to find their next stallion or addition to their broodmare band. Buyers can also find show horses for every level of rider and every discipline of riding.

For a free sale catalog or more information, please contact Jill Williams, sale coordinator, at (208) 882-5578 ext. 282 or marketing@appaloosa.com. A sale catalog will also be available for download at www.appaloosa.com by October 15.
