Visit the Appaloosa Museum
The Appaloosa Museum’s modern facility includes a newly expanded exhibit area, a theatre, a hands-on children’s area, a library featuring books, magazines, and videos and a large gift shop. Exhibit themes range from the early evidence of spotted horses in art and literature to the relationship between the Appaloosa and the Nez Perce Indians, to the highlights of the modern Appaloosa Horse Club. The museum is currently installing several new exhibits including a timeline of the Appaloosa Horse Club from 1938 to the present and a display of Appaloosa model horses in the children’s area.
The Appaloosa Museum is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Pacific Time). Admission is free, but a donation of $2 per person and $4 per family is suggested.

We’re working on a coffee-table book that will be a photographic portrayal of the Appaloosa in all its many disciplines. The hundreds of photographs in the book will be accompanied by short stories in some of the chapters. Please submit stories, 1,000 words or less, to

Appaloosa Horse Club to air new season of
The Appaloosa Horse
The Appaloosa Horse, with brand-new episodes, is once again going to be aired on RFD-TV as part of a year long TV series Horse Babies, produced by Vigilante Films. Each episode will be broadcast four times in December, and again in Spring 2006.
Episode 1 - Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls

Known worldwide for their spectacular trick riding and roping, the Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls began in 1979 at Tommy Maier's unique riding school in Exeter, California. Since then, the elite team. of Western performance artists has been featured on Good Morning America, ESPN and MTV. Named official Goodwill Ambassadors by the U.S. government, the Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls have traveled around the world representing the spirit of America.

Episode 3 - 2005 World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show

During the first week of the World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show, youths up to age 18 competed in 69 classes. More than 2,100 entries competed in classes of different age and skill divisions. Youths from across the nation showcased their skills and talents in several classes including halter, western equitation, reining, games, trail, hunt seat and team. penning. A special feature at the Youth Show was the Annual Challenged Riders’ Leadline class — a unique class open to all ages and all breeds.
Episode 4 - 2005 Chief Joseph Trail Ride

The 2005 historic Chief Joseph Trail Ride was a resounding success. Now in its 41st year, 297 Appaloosa trail riders took part in this year's ride. The route began and ended at Tolo Lake, a few miles west of Grangeville, Idaho. Camp was made in a different location each night, with nightly entertainment including historical speakers, music and dancing. This year’s ride even featured a wedding on horseback Sunday evening.

Renew your

The ApHC is excited to announce our new online membership renewal service. Members can now renew their memberships by visiting

and clicking on the “Renew Registration” link. Members who renew online will receive an immediate e-mail confirmation that can be printed as proof of membership until their card arrives. New memberships can also be purchased online. This new feature not only provides a user-friendly and easy way for members to interact with the ApHC, it also saves time and resources.
The ApHC’s planning more Web site upgrades, including the horse name search, show calendar and judge listings features that will improve the search capabilities and functionality of the site as well as give it a much-needed facelift. Be sure to check back often to test these improved features.

Stallion Reports
Save on your stallion report for the 2005 breeding season by having it postmarked by November 30, 2005. The member cost is $10 per stallion and $4 for each mare listed.
All stallions by submission of their stallion report must be DNA tested, and the results must be filed with ApHC. Forms are available from the ApHC office or at
www.appaloosa.com. |

Foundation Pedigree Designation
The FPD classification on your horse’s certificate of registration provides proof of Appaloosa bloodlines and important clues to breeding potential. By taking notice of valuable foundation bloodlines, breeders have been able to select desired qualities such as conformation, soundness, athletic ability and Appaloosa characteristics. |

ApHC Pedigrees
The ApHC offers four kinds of Appaloosa pedigrees to further promote and preserve the breed. These may include your horse’s parentage, show history, color and coat pattern:
- Five-generation pedigree includes horses’ names and numbers, $15.
- Four-generation color pedigree includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa base colors and coat patterns, $20.
- Four-generation show/race pedigree includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa show and race histories, $25.
- Three-generation color show/race pedigree includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa base colors, coat patterns and show/race histories, $25.

Sale
on mare DNA kits ends December 31, 2005!
The ApHC is offering mare DNA kits at the special rate of $35 until December 31, 2005. The board of directors implemented mandatory DNA testing for breeding mares beginning January 1, 2004. All mares born in 1995 and after must have their DNA on file before their foals, born in 2004 or after, can be registered. Mares born before 1995 producing foals in 2004 and beyond must have their DNA on file according to the schedule below:

2006 Color Breed Council Ring Steward
Seminar
The Color Breed Council is once again offering a seminar designed to educate current and potential ring stewards. The seminar will be held at the Biltmore Hotel in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on February 5, 2006, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Participants will have a chance to learn from the equine industry’s recognized experts. This year’s seminar features instructors Don Manuello, Ron McMillian, Leah Mackey, Nancy Braesicke and Jack Junker. Topics will include rulebook preparation, pre-show preparation, show procedures and scribing. The seminar is open to the public.
The registration fee, including lunch, is $100 if postmarked by January 1, 2006, and $150 if postmarked after January 1, 2006.

Director Election Deadline
Don’t forget to submit your completed youth director election ballot by December 13, 2005. Incomplete ballots or ballots received after this deadline will not be valid. Please take some time to review the applicants and vote for the person you feel will best represent the Appaloosa Horse Club and Appaloosa Youth Association. Your return address must be on your ballot in order for it to be valid. Be an active youth member and make your vote count! |
