   Buckle Sponsors Needed

Buckle sponsors are needed for the 59th National and World Championship Appaloosa Youth shows. The sterling silver trophy buckles are custom-designed by Gist Silversmiths and are awarded to high-point winners during the show. The sponsor’s name will be engraved on the back of the buckle so the recipient will be aware of who sponsored the buckle. The cost of a buckle sponsorship is $325.

In addition to the sponsor name being engraved on the back of the buckle, buckle sponsors receive the following benefits as recognition for their generosity:
• Listed as the sponsor of the award in the show premium book
• Listed as a show sponsor in the July and September issues of Appaloosa Journal
• Announced as sponsor during the show
• Listed as a sponsor on the Sponsor Wall at the show and on the ApHC Web site
• Listed as a sponsor in the daily National Network
• Afforded the opportunity to present the trophy buckle to the winner in the arena

For a list of buckles available for sponsorship, please call ext. 229 or e-mail publicrelations@appaloosa.com. The deadline for buckle sponsorships is March 1, 2006 to guarantee the engraving on the buckle.

Support Youths — Sponsor a Class

Members of the AYA are gathering class sponsorships for their annual fundraiser. Class sponsors not only support the AYA and show enthusiasm for a particular class, they also receive recognition during the World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show through announcements, on posters, and in the National Network, a daily publication circulated throughout the show. Class sponsorships are $100 for the first class, $50 each additional class.

Each AYA director is encouraged to obtain at least $200 in donations each year. This money helps fund AYA programs, activities and awards throughout the year. Directors may acquire donations by securing class sponsorships for either the World Championship Appaloosa Youth/National Show or the World Championship Appaloosa Show.

To sponsor a class, download an application at www.appaloosa.com/nationalshow.shtm or contact your nearest AYA director. For more information, call ext. 264 or 282.

    Promote Your Spots

If you want the attention of a captive, equine-oriented market, promote your business or farm at the 59th National and Youth Appaloosa Show. There are numerous promotional opportunities:
National Network advertising — a daily show newsletter filled with class schedules, show results, articles, announcements and more. Attendees use National Network to plan each of their days at the show. Rates for advertising are:

Full-page ad for entire show: $400
Half-page ad for entire show: $250
Quarter-page ad for entire show: $150
Text-only National Network bulletin board ad for entire show: $50
Bulletin board ad for one day: $10
Farm flag advertising ensures your logo is seen by thousands of exhibitors and spectators over the span of the 13-day show. Farm flags are hung in the State Fair Arena for maximum visibility.

Class sponsors are recognized with announcements, posters and in National Network. Also, the sponsorship is treated like a donation to the AYA. Sponsorship of one class costs $100; each additional class $50.
Promotional packages add value by combining promotional opportunities at a special rate. Custom promotional packages are also available.

Promotional package 1 — $950 value for just $500 — includes a full-page Network ad for the entire show, your banner* hung in the arena for the entire show, sponsorship of a full day during the show including announcements made throughout the day and the option of presenting awards on that day and the sponsorship of two show classes.

Promotional package 2 — $500 value for just $350 - Includes a half-page Network ad for the entire show, your banner* hung in the arena for the entire show and the sponsorship of two show classes.

Promotional package 3 — $250 value for just $200 — includes your banner* hung in the arena for the entire show and the sponsorship of two show classes.

*Prices are for existing banners. If you need a banner made, call for pricing.

For more information, call ext. 282 or e-mail marketing@appaloosa.com

   Free Promotional Literature

Brochures about the Appaloosa and the ApHC as well as the Guide to Identifying posters are available and free to ApHC members and regional clubs. To request ApHC promotional literature, fill out the form at www.appaloosa.com/association/promolit.shtm. Include your name, address and phone number with your request.

If you need the materials for a specific event, include the name and date(s) of the event, the name of your club (if applicable) and the estimated number of people expected to attend the event. Submit your request at least 30 days prior to any scheduled event. You may also order by calling ext. 225 or e-mailing promotions@appaloosa.com

   Foundation Pedigree Designation

The FPD classification on your horse’s certificate of registration provides proof of Appaloosa bloodlines and important clues to breeding potential. By taking notice of valuable foundation bloodlines, breeders have been able to select desired qualities such as conformation, soundness, athletic ability and Appaloosa characteristics.

Visit the ApHC Web site at www.appaloosa.com/downloadableforms.shtm for enrollment forms, or apply when registering or transferring horses. If you have questions or would like a free printout of horses that may be eligible, contact the registration department at ext. 300 or registration@appaloosa.com.

   ApHC Pedigrees

The ApHC offers four kinds of Appaloosa pedigrees to further promote and preserve the breed. These may include your horse’s parentage, show history, color and coat pattern:
  • Five-generation pedigree includes horses’ names and numbers, $15.
  • Four-generation color pedigree includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa base colors and coat patterns, $20.
  • Four-generation show/race pedigree includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa show and race histories, $25.
  • Three-generation color show/race pedigree includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa base colors, coat patterns and show/race histories, $25.

  GAP for Foundation Breeders

The ApHC’s new Generation Advancement Program (GAP), which took effect January 1, 2006, recognizes horses of advancing generations of registered Appaloosa-to-Appaloosa breeding that exceed the four-generation FPD level.

GAP is not an extension of FPD. Changes made to FPD in 2002 allow unknown, unregistered and/or non-Appaloosas to count toward the 100 percent FPD qualification, but GAP does not. To be eligible for the first level (G5) of the program, a horse must:

  • Have parents with four full generations of ApHC registered Appaloosas in their pedigrees. There can be no unknown, unregistered or outcross horses in the four generation pedigree.
  • Applicant horse must be parentage verified via DNA testing through the ApHC and results filed with the ApHC.
  • Dam and sire of the applicant horse must be registered with the ApHC and must be DNA tested and the results filed with the ApHC.
  • At least one parent must be registered with a Regular (#) registration classification

An initial applicant Appaloosa may qualify for first level (G5). Only offspring of horses entered in GAP will qualify for the next level of the program. For example, generation six (G6) is comprised of horses with five complete generations of ApHC-registered Appaloosas. A G6-level horse results from the breeding of two G5-level horses or a G5-level horse and a G5-level-or-higher horse. Resulting foals only advance one level from the lowest level parent.

ApHC-registered Appaloosas that are eligible to show at ApHC-approved and/or sponsored events, and are entered in GAP, may enter ApHC-approved FPD classes in addition to other ApHC-approved classes for which they are eligible.

For fees, forms and complete rules and regulations for GAP, visit www.appaloosa.com or call ext. 300.

  2006 ApHC European Judges Seminar

The Appaloosa Horse Club, in conjunction with the Bavarian Western Riding Association (VWB), will conduct the next European Judges Seminar April 24 – 26, 2006, at Gut Matheshof in Kreuth bei Rieden, Germany. Top professionals Jack Drechsler and Joe Carter, both from Ontario, Canada, will present fast-paced training sessions on English, western and halter events. In addition to providing an excellent educational opportunity for anyone interested in expanding their judging knowledge, potential applicants will be able to test to become an approved ApHC European judge. The seminar will consist of two days of classroom instruction and one day of testing and live judging. A short session on show management will also be offered.

Applicants will judge video and live classes, take a written rulebook test and be interviewed. Instructors will discuss class rules as stated in the 2006 Official Handbook of the ApHC, class procedures and judging practices related to the classes that will be covered in the tests. The video and live judging portions may include, but are not limited to, halter, showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, trail, western riding, reining, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation and working hunter. Testing during the seminar will enable individuals that pass to obtain an ApHC European judges card subject to all rules and regulations of the ApHC.

The seminar is open to the public for $50 (U.S.). For those interested in testing to become an approved ApHC European judge, the cost is $100 (U.S.). ApHC membership is required for judge applicants prior to testing.

If you’re interested in attending or would like more information, visit our Web site at www.appaloosa.com/shows/judgeseminars.shtm for a detailed explanation of the application requirements and necessary forms.
