  Buckle Sponsors Needed

Buckle sponsors are needed for the 59th National and World Championship Appaloosa Youth shows. The sterling silver trophy buckles are custom-designed by Gist Silversmiths and are awarded to high-point winners during the show. The sponsor’s name will be engraved on the back of the buckle so the recipient will be aware of who sponsored the buckle. The cost of a buckle sponsorship is $325.

In addition to the sponsor name being engraved on the back of the buckle, buckle sponsors receive the following benefits as recognition for their generosity:
• Listed as the sponsor of the award in the show premium book
• Listed as a show sponsor in the July and September issues of Appaloosa Journal
• Announced as sponsor during the show
• Listed as a sponsor on the Sponsor Wall at the show and on the ApHC Web site
• Listed as a sponsor in the daily National Network
• Afforded the opportunity to present the trophy buckle to the winner in the arena

For a list of buckles available for sponsorship, please call ext. 229 or e-mail publicrelations@appaloosa.com. The deadline for buckle sponsorships is March 1, 2006 to guarantee the engraving on the buckle.

Appaloosa Horse Club Updates Appearance of Certificate of Registration

In an effort to better serve its membership, the Appaloosa Horse Club is issuing new registration certificates to owners who apply for Foundation Pedigree Designation (FPD) and Generational Advancement Program (GAP).

In the past, for purposes of designating a horse FPD, the ApHC adhered a sticker with an image of Chief Joseph and the percentage of FPD on the horse’s certificate. With the implementation of the GAP in January 2006, the ApHC realized that an additional sticker would clutter the certificate, especially on those certificates already bearing DNA stickers and inspectors’ stamps. The solution was to streamline the manner in which FPD and GAP designations would appear on ApHC certificates of registration.

Since applications for FPD and GAP must be accompanied by current photographs of the horse, it was determined that a professional appearance could be obtained most easily by reprinting the certificates to include the FPD and GAP designations once the new data was entered into the horses’ files. The FPD and GAP designations will appear to the right of the foal date, eliminating the need for stickers for both programs. If DNA is on file for the horse, that will also be added to the description line.

The Appaloosa Horse Club is the international breed registry for Appaloosa horses and is located in Moscow, Idaho. Since 1938, the ApHC has been dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the breed, and has registered over 668,000 Appaloosas. Of those, 3,551 have been enrolled in FPD, which was implemented in 1995, and we look forward to entering our first horse in the new GAP designation.

  2006 ApHC European Judges Seminar

The Appaloosa Horse Club, in conjunction with the Bavarian Western Riding Association, will conduct the next European Judges Seminar April 24 – 26, 2006, at Gut Matheshof in Kreuth bei Rieden, Germany. Top professionals Jack Drechsler and Joe Carter, both from Ontario, Canada, will present fast-paced training sessions on English, western and halter events. In addition to providing an excellent educational opportunity for anyone interested in expanding their judging knowledge, potential applicants will be able to test to become an approved ApHC European judge. The seminar will consist of two days of classroom instruction and one day of testing and live judging. A short session on show management will also be offered.

Applicants will judge video and live classes, take a written rulebook test and be interviewed. Instructors will discuss class rules as stated in the 2006 Official Handbook of the ApHC, class procedures and judging practices related to the classes that will be covered in the tests. The video and live judging portions may include, but are not limited to, halter, showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, trail, western riding, reining, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation and working hunter. Testing during the seminar will enable individuals that pass to obtain an ApHC European judges card subject to all rules and regulations of the ApHC.

The seminar is open to the public for $50 (U.S.). For those interested in testing to become an approved ApHC European judge, the cost is $100 (U.S.). ApHC membership is required for judge applicants prior to testing.

If you’re interested in attending or would like more information, visit our Web site at www.appaloosa.com/shows/judgeseminars.shtm for a detailed explanation of the application requirements and necessary forms. To speak with an ApHC representative, contact ApHC International Delegate Wiebe Lise in The Netherlands at lise0003@planet.nl or by phone at 0031-594-631806, or ApHC Judges’ Coordinator Jessica Dixon at ext. 244 or show-judges@appaloosa.com.
