Apache Land Trail Ride Kicks Off The Trail Riding Season

The Apache Land Trail Ride is an all-breed trail ride that is done in a wagon-wheel fashion. Riders will leave base camp each morning to experience a new and exciting trail every day. The Wild Horse Trail Camp is one of the most scenic campgrounds in America. Blue sky, blue mountains, evergreen and oak make up the essence of this resting place that is nestled in the very heart of the Kiamichi Mountains in southeastern Oklahoma. Tucked away at the foot of Wild Horse Mountain, you will ride trails made by Indians, Outlaws and Settlers.

Meals will be provided by The Wild Horse Trail Camp, starting with the evening meal on Sunday, April 16 and ending with breakfast on Saturday, April 22. Sack lunches will be provided for lunch on the trail. All horse breeds are welcome.

Entertainment for the ride includes music, dancing, award ceremonies, and relaxing camaraderie. The Wild Horse Trail Camp will provide several extra amenities, including home cooked meals with fresh baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast and fresh baked bread and rolls for the evening meal; electric hookups; laundry facilities on request and hot showers.

Deadline to sign up for the ride is March 15, so plan your vacation today! Visit the ApHC’s Web site at www.appaloosa.com for ride fees and applications.

   Foundation Pedigree Designation
The FPD classification on your horse’s certificate of registration provides proof of Appaloosa bloodlines and important clues to breeding potential. By taking notice of valuable foundation bloodlines, breeders are able to select desired qualities such as conformation, soundness, athletic ability and Appaloosa characteristics.

Visit the ApHC Web site at www.appaloosa.com/downloadableforms.shtm for enrollment forms, or apply when registering or transferring horses. If you have questions or would like a free printout of horses that may be eligible, contact the registration department at (208) 882-5578 ext. 300 or registration@appaloosa.com.

   ApHC Pedigrees

The ApHC offers four kinds of Appaloosa pedigrees to further promote and preserve the breed:
• * Five-generation pedigree * includes horses’ names and numbers, $15.
• * Four-generation color pedigree * includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa base colors and coat patterns, $20.
• * Four-generation show/race pedigree * includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa show and race histories, $25.
• * Three-generation color show/race pedigree * includes horses’ names, numbers, foaling years, Appaloosa base colors, coat patterns and show/race histories, $25.

   Registration Fee Schedule

Allow six to eight weeks for your certificate of registration. The ApHC offers rush orders, so contact the registration department if you need your certificate in less time. Registration fees are:
Foal date to 6th month foal date: $30 members and $95 non-members

Appaloosa Horse Club Updates Appearance of Certificate of Registration

In an effort to better serve its membership, the ApHC is issuing new registration certificates to owners who apply for Foundation Pedigree Designation (FPD) and Generational Advancement Program. (GAP).

For purposes of designating a horse FPD, in the past the ApHC adhered a sticker with an image of Chief Joseph and the percentage of FPD on the horse’s certificate. With the implementation of the GAP in January 2006, the ApHC realized that an additional sticker would clutter the certificate, especially on those certificates already bearing DNA stickers and inspectors’ stamps. The solution was to streamline the manner in which FPD and GAP designations would appear on ApHC certificates of registration.

Since applications for FPD and GAP must be accompanied by current photographs of the horse, it was determined that a professional appearance could be obtained most easily by reprinting the certificates to include the FPD and GAP designations once the new data was entered into the horses’ files. The FPD and GAP designations will appear to the right of the foal date, eliminating the need for stickers for both programs. If DNA is on file for the horse, that will also be added to the description line.

  2006 ApHC European Judges Seminar

The ApHC and the Bavarian Western Riding Association (VWB) will conduct the next European Judges Seminar April 24–26, 2006, at Gut Matheshof in Kreuth bei Rieden, Germany. The video and live judging portions may include, but are not limited to, halter, showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, trail, western riding, reining, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation and working hunter.
