Territory meeting

Appaloosa Horse Club programs, area regional club opportunities, Appaloosa history, nutritional info, and roundtable sessions to discuss breed issues--at the national, regional, and local levels--are among the items on the agenda for a special gathering to be held Feb. 16 in Territory 1, Zone C. The meeting will be held at the Dakota Magic Casino on I-29 at the North Dakota/South Dakota border. Anyone interested in Appaloosas, from any area, is invited to attend; ApHC membership and Territory I, Zone C residence, aren't required.

The day's sessions will start at 9 a.m. Information from the roundtable discussions will be compiled and presented to the national ApHC directors in attendance. There is room for 300 to attend, with more space available if needed. Forty rooms are set aside at the casino hotel at a special rate.

For more information, contact Gail Smith at 888-801-1685. or at the email smithshowhorses@aol.com. "We look forward to meeting new Appaloosa enthusiasts as well as already-active members," says Smith. "This gathering promises to be an excellent networking opportunity, as well as a great source for useful, take-home information."

Attention show secretaries!

Corrections to all show results for shows held prior to November 15 must be submitted by December 21, 2007. For shows held after November 15, show results and corrections must be in the ApHC office by December 31, 2007.

December 31 is also the deadline for all ACAAP reports and Breeders’ Trust stallion enrollments to receive the lowest price in advance of next year’s breeding season.
Thank you to all who volunteered at regional shows this year by working in the arena and/or the show office, as well as volunteering your time working on the many details that go into hosting a successful show. We appreciate you and all your efforts!

Register your aged horse

The ApHC is offering members the opportunity to register any Appaloosa over the age of 2 for the special price of $150. To be eligible, the horse must meet ApHC bloodline requirements: At least one parent must be ApHC-registered with Regular (#) classification; non-Appaloosa parent must be registered with an approved outcross (AHA, AQHA, or JC). This special offer ends December 31, 2007.

Update your facility records

January is a great time to update your facility records for 2008. When a registered Appaloosa dies, the owner should notify the ApHC including name, registration number, month, day and year of death, and signature of owner. You may also submit the original Certificate of Registration to the ApHC, though it is not necessary. Additionally, when an Appaloosa has lived 30 years past January 1 of its foaling year, it will be presumed dead and it’s records marked accordingly. If the horse has not actually died, the owner may contact the ApHC, and provide satisfactory evidence that the horse is alive, which the owner will be required to do on an annual basis.

Gelding/Spayed mare fee increases

Geldings and spayed mares which do not meet Appaloosa Horse Club pedigree requirements or are of unknown pedigree will be accepted for ApHC-registration with full rights and privileges if they otherwise meet the requirements for Regular (#) registration i)coat pattern, or ii) mottled skin and one other characteristic, and are not ineligible for registration according to ApHC rules. Beginning January 1, 2008, the registration fees for geldings or spayed mares that do not meet ApHC pedigreed requirements or are of unknown pedigree will increase to $100 ($165 non-member). Registration fees for pedigreed geldings will remain at $35 ($100 non-member) regardless of the animal’s age.
