World Show results deadline

Attention to all regional club officials: Regional shows held after August 1 must have show results into the ApHC office by September 10, 2008.

Rule change

A motion to amend Rule 205 was passed in July for a rule change to become effective January 1, 2009. The amendment allows Appaloosas with excessive white, as defined in the Official Handbook, to be ApHC-registered, as long as the applicant Appaloosa’s parentage has been verified through DNA testing and proves that the sire and dam are both ApHC-registered, and one parents has ApHC registration classification of Regular (#). All Appaloosas with white markings exceeding those defined in the Official Handbook shall have the following notification placed on their Certificate of Registration: “This horse has white markings designated under ApHC rules as an undesirable trait.” Horses with such designation on their certificates are ineligible to compete in ApHC-approved halter classes.

In an effort to impede excessive white in the Appaloosa breed, the Board passed a motion making all American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA)-registered stallions and mares that have the following or similar notation on their registration papers ineligible as a parent of an Appaloosa: “This horse has white markings designated under AQHA rules as an undesirable trait and uncharacteristic of the breed.”

A home for adopted Appaloosas

With the slaughter ban and an increase in horses left abandoned or neglected, more people are adopting Appaloosas. They’re often sent to their new family without knowledge of pedigree. The ApHC is proud to be one of the only organizations offering registration to these lost horses.

Geldings and spayed mares that don’t meet the ApHC pedigree requirements or are of unknown pedigree will be accepted for ApHC registration with full rights and privileges if they otherwise meet the requirements for Regular (#) registration.

If you or anyone you know has adopted an Appaloosa, thank you for giving it a family. Now we’d like to offer it a home. Forms are available at www.appaloosa.com or call 208-882-5578 ext. 300.
