Nastyattitude

It is with deepest regrets that the ApHC reports that World Champion 2-year-old stallion Nastyattitude has gone on to greener pastures. “Chucky” was put to rest late Thursday, July 23, after severely colicking. Chucky will be greatly missed, and our thoughts go out to Steve Capps, his wife and family.

Please note that Nastyattitude was featured on an ad for the World Appaloosa Sale in the August 2009 issue of the Appaloosa Journal that was printed prior to his passing.

Apalousey Trail Ride

The Appaloosa Museum & Heritage Center invites local Appaloosa enthusiasts to load up their horses and camping gear for a weekend of adventure at the 12th Annual Apalousey Trail Ride! This all-breed trail ride will be held Aug. 7–9, 2009, at the Pony Club Grounds on George Hatley’s (a.k.a Mr. Appaloosa) ranch just outside of Deary, Idaho. The fun begins Friday, Aug. 7, for rider check-in and an evening performance by the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers Association. The ride begins Saturday morning for a trek along Palouse trails, ending the day with wagon rides, the locally renowned Dutch Oven Dinner, a silent auction and an evening performance of the Singin’ Cowboy, Bodi Dominguez. The weekend concludes on Sunday with a hearty breakfast followed by a morning trail ride.

The Apalousey Trail Ride is also a wonderful opportunity to wish Mr. Appaloosa a happy 85th birthday! The Appaloosa icon celebrated his milestone birthday at his ranch, the site of the Apalousey Trail Ride, with a picnic and wagon ride throughout the picturesque scenery.

All proceeds from the Apalousey Trail Ride, Dutch Oven Dinner and Silent Auction will benefit the Appaloosa Museum & Heritage Center. This trail ride is open to all breeds and no horse is necessary to be a part of the Dutch Oven Dinner or Silent Auction! Time is running out to sign up for the Apalousey Trail Ride, so be sure to contact the Appaloosa Museum & Heritage Center soon. Please call (208) 882-5578 ext. 279 or e-mail museum@appaloosa.com.

The Appaloosa Museum & Heritage Center is a non-profit organization established in 1975 to collect, study and exhibit objects and information that illustrate the Appaloosa horse. The Appaloosa Museum & Heritage Center is affiliated with the ApHC, the official international breed registry.

Appaloosa Survey for Thesis

Below you will find a brief introduction and link for a survey regarding Appaloosa stallions throughout the history of the breed. Your participation in the survey supports an active youth member who has developed her graduating thesis around the Appaloosa breed. The ApHC is proud to support its youth membership and we are asking you to as well by participating in the following survey:

I’m Brandy Kines and am writing to solicit your help in the research process of my thesis. I am a long-time member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and have been showing Appaloosas since I was five. Currently I am pursuing a master’s degree in Agricultural Communications at Texas A&M University.

For my thesis, I am chronicling the stallions that have influenced the Appaloosa breed and industry since the 1960s. I have read the book Spotted Pride and it has influenced me to pursue this as a thesis topic.

I am contacting individuals who are active participants in the industry. If you agree to help, you will be asked to complete an online survey to identify the stallions you believe should be included in the thesis, which should take a maximum of 15 minutes.

After the survey, if you have had personal involvement (breeder, trainer, exhibitor, etc) with one of the stallions identified for the study, you may be asked to participate in an interview about the stallion. The interview will take no longer than an hour.

I appreciate your taking the time to consider helping me with this undertaking. If you are interested in participating, please use the following link to access the survey.

Thanks!

ApHC adjusts World Show qualifying guidelines for regional clubs

The ApHC Board of Directors has approved, effective immediately, an increase of the number of qualifying nominations for the World Championship Appaloosa Show from one nomination to five in each class.

Rule 703.A.1. Under the regional club system, a regional organization officially recognized as an affiliate in good standing with the ApHC may qualify up to five of its top five horses for the World Championship Appaloosa Show in each class. In order for a regional club to be eligible to nominate horses for the World Championship Appaloosa Show under the regional qualifying system, that club must have sponsored, pointed or co-sponsored at least one ApHC-approved show in that qualifying year and that regional club may only nominate horses in classes in which such horses exhibited in that club’s sponsored, pointed or co-sponsored show.

In order to complete this process for this year, regional clubs will submit your regular nomination packet listing your top 5 horses in each class. All of the top 5 horses will be eligible to receive a World Show invitation in that class unless they have previously qualified through the national point system or from another regional club. In order to receive an invitation, the horse must have earned at least one national point in the class which it has been nominated.

World qualifying packets will be available for download on the regional club page of the ApHC web site. www.appaloosa.com/clubs-affiliates/regional_clubs
