Tulsa—Here We Come!

The National Championship & Youth World Championship Shows will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2011 & 2012. The Tulsa Convention & Visitors Bureau has offered a financial incentive package to assist the ApHC with costs associated with producing the show in this venue. In order to sustain their level of financial support, we must certify the number of hotel rooms used in the city during the show. To do this, we have established a Housing Bureau that is staffed by the Tulsa CVB to help show attendees select hotels and book rooms during the show. This way we can track hotel room useage in order to sustain the financial support offered by the Tulsa CVB.
Tulsa CVB employees will be on hand during the World Show to assist you with room reservations for the 2011 National Show. Please check the ApHC website often. Information on how to book rooms online will be added to the National Show page within the next 2–3 weeks. A variety of properties, amenities and price points will be available.
Incentive money offered by the host city helps the ApHC pay show-related costs, and helps avoid passing some of those costs on to exhibitors. Please assist us in maintaining that financial support by booking rooms through the Housing Bureau. We appreciate your support!
Click here to review available hotel options in Tulsa. A variety of price points, award programs and ammenities are available at the eight properties contracted to host show attendees. There's sure to be one that will meet your needs!
For best rates, book by May 31!

Novice Youth Eligibility

Appaloosa Youth Association members—please note that novice youth requirements for 2011 have changed. Novice eligibility will now be calculated by class. You may be eligible to show in any novice class if you have less than 20 points in that group of classes and if you have not won a National or World title in that class. For example: you are eligible to show in novice showmanship if you have less than 20 total combined points in any age group showmanship class and English showmanship class and if you have not won a national or world title in any showmanship class (excluding walk-trot). If you are ineligible for novice showmanship for any reason (such as having earned too many showmanship points), you may still be eligible to show in any other novice youth class if you meet requirements for that class.

To view a listing of classes in which you are eligblie to show novice, please click here, enter your membership number and click “Submit.” Please print a copy of that list to take to regional shows as proof of your novice eligibility.

Novice points will be accrued to the youth's novice record regardless of whether or not the youth is eligible to earn points as determined by their relationship to the owner of the horse. Once the 20-point total is reached, the youth will no longer be able to show in that novice class at the end of the calendar year. However, these points will not count toward year-end high-point awards or accumulative lifetime awards.

Please refer to the ApHC website for complete rules regarding novice youth eligibility. Click here to access the 2011 Official Rules of the Appaloosa Horse Club.

Novice Non-Pro Eligibility

Non-pros are reminded to view a listing of classes in which you are eligible to show novice. Please click here, enter your membership number and click “Submit.” Please print a copy of that list to take to regional shows as proof of your novice eligibility.

NEW Non-pro versatility award

Thank you to Napa Auto Parts of Ithaca, New York for sponsoring the non-pro 35 & over and the non-pro masters versatility awards. These new awards will be presented in 2011 through 2015. Points are calculated on a one-horse/one-rider basis using the regular national point system scale. Points must have been earned in both showmanship and performance with a minimum of 5 points being earned in the lowest division. The non-pro with the highest number of points in these respective divisions with one horse will receive a custom-made sterling silver belt buckle compliments of Napa Auto Parts. Please visit the ApHC website periodically for current standings throughout the 2011 show year.
Contact: Performance Department (208) 882-5578 ext. 400

Rule change for all youth exhibitors

In 2011 youth exhibitors may ride a maximum of two horses in each of the following classes: trail, reining, western riding, jumping, working hunter, cutting, hunter in hand, judged heading, judged heeling, breakaway roping, judged tie-down roping, steer daubing, figure 8 stake race, keyhole race, walk-trot trail, walk-trot Nez Perce stake race, walk-trot camas prairie stump race, walk-trot keyhole and walk-trot figure 8 stake race. Youth exhibitors may only ride one horse in all other youth classes.

All points earned by the youth exhibitor, regardless of the number of horses ridden, will be credited to that youth's overall point record. However, for year-end high-point award purposes, points in each of these classes will be maintained for each individual exhibitor-and-horse combination.

Transfers of Ownership

The ApHC would like to thank all the members who took advantage of our recent transfer sale. Transfers of ownership are a great way to update your records as well as ApHC records. After completion of a sale, it is the sellers responsibility to properly complete a transfer report and deliver it to the buyer along with the Certificate of Registration. The buyer should then immediately forward the transfer report and certificate, along with the applicable fee, with the ApHC membership status of the buyer determining the proper fee, to the ApHC. Current year ApHC members can transfer an Appaloosa for only $15.

We encourage you to check out the membership services page at www.appaloosa.com. If you are still listed as the registered owner of Appaloosas you sold, contact the buyers and encourage them to submit the transfers of ownership.

Aged horse special

In this time of financial difficulty, we understand the increasingly large demand for decreased registration rates for aged Appaloosas. The ApHC is answering this call by offering members an opportunity to register eligible Appaloosas over 2 years of age for the reduced rate of $150!

Eligibility requirements:

  • ApHC members only—You may purchase a membership at the time of registration.
  • Applicant horse may be eligible for Regular (#) or Non-characteristic (N) classification
  • Applicant horse must be 2 years or older to benefit from the special
  • Applicant horse must meet all registration requirements
  • Applicant horse must meet ApHC bloodline requirement: At least one parent must be ApHC-registered with Regular (#) classification; non-Appaloosa parents must be registered with an approved breed association (AQHA, JC, or AHA).

Canadians can dual-register Appaloosas

The ApHC welcomes dual-registration of Appaloosa Horse Club of Canada (ApHCC) horses! It's simple-no stallion breeding reports, breeder's certificates, or transfers of ownership necessary! To receive an ApHC Certificate of Registration, simply submit your request along with a photocopy of the front and back of the ApHCC Certificate of Registration, four current photographs of your horse, clearly showing both sides, a complete front and rear view, and a $100 fee (US funds). ApHC registration classification and eligibility are subject to ApHC rules and regulations.
