ApHC Stallion Service Auction

Terms and Conditions

Stallions eligible for the Service Auction include ApHC-registered horses and ApHC-approved outcross stallions (Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred and Arabian).

Bidding is exclusively online. Bidding starts at ½ the advertised stud fee or $250, whichever price is higher. For stallions standing at private treaty, bidding starts at $500. The stallion service will be awarded to the highest bidder. In the event that the high bidder does not pay in full within 24 hours, the next highest bidder will be given the opportunity to purchase the service. If the next highest bidder does not purchase the service, it shall be placed in the second phase of the auction.

Any Stallions not purchased by the close of the Auction will remain available for ½ of the advertised stallion fee or $250, whichever price if higher, on the Auction site during the Buy-It-Now phase. If a Stallion is not sold by the final auction closing, the Stallion owner has the option to purchase the breeding for a fee of $250.

Winning Bidder shall be required to make the payment online at the time of purchase. A 4% buyer’s fee will be added to the purchase price of the Stallion Service to cover transaction costs. There will be no refunds from the Appaloosa Horse Club of stallion services sold in the auction except in the case of the death of the stallion before breeding the high bidder’s mare. The ApHC does not guarantee the high bidder a live foal for any breeding sold through the Stallion Service Auction.

High bid only covers the actual stallion service fee. Stallion owners or managers may also require other fees in conjunction with the breeding of a mare. These fees may be, but are not limited to: chute fees, collection fees, shipping fees, boarding fees, etc. All ancillary fees shall be listed in the stallion’s auction profile and are payable to the stallion owner or manager. All ancillary fees are strictly between the stallion owner and mare owner.

The highest bidder for each stallion service will receive a certificate from the ApHC stating that the resulting ApHC-registered foal will be eligible for and nomination fees waived for entry into the Stallion Service Auction Incentive Classes at the World Show (regular entry fees will apply). This certificate must be submitted by September 15th of the weanling year. If the “nomination certificate” is not submitted by the deadline, a late nomination fee will be assessed. See fee schedule.

A mare owner nomination entitles the owner to enter the horse in more than one of the incentive classes. Class entry fees will apply for each incentive class entered. 50% of class entry fees will be paid back to each related class. Mare owner incentive nominations are non-transferrable to another horse.

Return Services If a mare owned by the high bidder fails to produce a foal resulting from the service bought through the Stallion Service Auction, an ApHC-registered foal resulting from a breeding to the same stallion in the following breeding season may be eligible for the relevant World Show Incentive Classes. In the event 1) a mare fails to conceive, 2) a mare conceives but does not carry the foal to term, 3) death of a foal at time of foaling or 4) a foal is born with a genetic defect, the owner must notify the ApHC as well as the stallion owner with proper certification from a licensed veterinarian. Any arrangements for rebreeding are strictly between the stallion owner and mare owner. The ApHC does not guarantee the high bidder a live foal for any breeding sold through the Stallion Service Auction.

Stallion Owner For each donated service that is sold, the stallion owner will receive a certificate from the ApHC that entitles the owner to nominate one ApHC-registered foal of said stallion from the related breeding season to be nominated for the Stallion Service Auction Incentive Classes at the World Show (regular entry fees will apply). This certificate must be submitted by September 15 of the weanling year. If the “nomination certificate” is not submitted by the deadline, a late nomination fee will be assessed. See fee schedule.

A stallion owner nomination entitles the owner to enter the horse in more than one of the incentive classes. Class entry fees will apply for each incentive class entered. 50% of class entry fees will be paid back to each related class. Stallion owner incentive nominations are non-transferrable to another horse.

Stallion Service Auction Incentive Class Eligibility - Paid Nominations
In addition to the above, any offspring of a stallion whose service was donated and sold in the auction that are registered with the ApHC, may be nominated by a $750 paid nomination for the World Show Stallion Service Auction Incentive Weanling Halter Class and Yearling Longe Line and In-Hand Trail Classes. This fee is paid in two payments. First payment is due to the ApHC September 15 of the weanling year. To retain the nomination for the yearling classes, the second payment must be completed by March 31 of the yearling year.

A full paid “nomination” entitles the owner to enter the horse in more than one of the incentive classes (Weanling Halter, Yearling Longe Line, and Yearling In-Hand Trail). If nominating an eligible ApHC-registered foal for the Yearling Incentive Classes that was not nominated as a weanling, late nomination fees will apply. All nominations are due to the ApHC by September 15 of the weanling year, whether or not the owner is entering the foal as a weanling. See fee schedule.

Class entry fees will apply for each incentive class entered. 50% of class entry fees will be paid back to related class. Paid incentive nominations are non-transferrable to another horse and will not be refunded.

SSA Incentive Classes: Owner Exhibitor Only
Foals nominated into the Stallion Service Auction Incentive Classes must be shown by the present owner of record on entry closing date.

Stallion Auction Funds Distribution 75% of stallion service auction net revenue, 75% of nomination net revenue, and 50% of class entry fee revenue will make up the incentive class purses.
